The college was established in 2001 & formally inaugurated on 17th October 2002 by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Honorable President of All India Congress Committee in the presence of distinguished personalities like Sri S.M.Krishna, former Chief Minister of Karnataka (presently the Governor of Maharashtra), late Dr Raja Ramanna, renowned Scientist of world repute who was the first chairman of the governing council of KNSIT till his demise, Dr Natarajan former Chairman AICTE, New Delhi, Dr K. Balaveera Reddy Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and other reputed personalities.

The institute has independent blocks for Computer Science and Electronics which led to the establishment of State of the art Research Institute with emphasis on Electronics and Informat.
